It is the most mineral-rich region in the world. This gives a spectacular flora and fauna! For culture and nature-lovers an attractive environment.
A multifunctional paradise: Many (historical) sightseeing possibilities, viewpoints, museums, castles, manors, towns, canoeing, cycling, walking, hiking, skiing, cross country skiing, skating, snowshoe hiking and much more. The area offers all the facets to a successful stay. The landscape is varied. From slightly hilly to rugged and rocky, lots of water (large and small lakes, connecting channels), many (primeval) forests interspersed by farmland and the famous red Swedish houses.
In the distant past, the steel and mineral extraction has been very important for the region. Transport to the Vänernmeer (the largest lake in Sweden) was done mainly over water. There are various channels and (lock) connections built between the many lakes. A spectacular example is shown in Bjurbäcken (at about 10 min) since the bridge locks an altitude of up to 20 meter! The locks are over 150 years old and still working.
Climate: Storfors is conveniently located in Sweden. The benefits of a continental climate (stabile warm summers and cold dry winters). Furthermore, the whole area (in the lee of the mountains of Norway and a high pressure area caused by the enormous lake Vänern) has the most hours of sunshine in Sweden!
Hotel Storfors is since late 2006 in the possession of 4 Dutch people. They have renovated the hotel in a history rich style. Equipped with all the contemporary luxury, guests now enjoy a personal touch, old-fashioned service in a friendly ‘fancy-cozy’ ambiance.
